Fundo FALCOPOLIS

Welcome to FALCOPOLIS — the largest raptor wintering roost site on Planet Earth recently discovered by Hungarian scientists in Angola and featured also in the National Geographic Magazine. This unique place hosts up to 1 million migratory falcons each year.

At FALCOPOLIS our mission is to protect and conserve the endangered Red-footed Falcon through dedicated research, habitat restoration, and community engagement. We strive to secure a future for this magnificent species by combining scientific conservation efforts with the power of education, ecotourism, and volunteer action.

You can join the research team who originally discovered FALCOPOLIS and published in National Geographic Magazine. We are proud to offer excellent quality and value for money in our workshops and volunteer programs in Hungary and in Angola.

By fostering sustainable ecotourism, we aim to connect people from around the world with the beauty of the Red-footed Falcon and its natural habitat, inspiring a deeper appreciation and commitment to conservation. Every visitor, supporter, and volunteer help us build a stronger, more resilient environment where both wildlife and local communities can thrive.

What People Say

The gathering of up to one million Red-footed Falcons near Huambo in Angola is without any doubt one of southern Africa’s greatest natural spectacles. A must-see for bird lovers visiting the region in March or early April!

H.E. Stéphane Doppagne Ambassador of Belgium in Angola

The Red-footed Falcon aggregation, FALCOPOLIS, is one of the world’s greatest, and least-known, natural wonders. Communities and bird-life rest in a delicate balance, requiring sensitive research-led conservation and restoration efforts to ensure the future of this remarkable spectacle. Through the work of the Falcopolis team and local community I am hopeful for the future of bird conservation success in Angola.
